Belfast to Hong Kong
This week I will be travelling to Hong Kong to meet and work with my project partner Kylie and I’m looking forward to it immensely.
We are planning to spend time developing the project together, exploring art, design and culture in Hong Kong and of course eating some amazing dumplings in between.
We’ll be visiting the Odd One Out Gallery in Wan Chai - a gallery specialising in printmaking where Kylie has been making and working for the past few years. The Wan Chai district is also home to the Hong Kong Arts Centre and Hong Kong House of Stories (perfect for this project) and a heritage and cultural trail of the district shows some of the distinctive buildings and places in the area.
Outside of Wan Chai, I hope to check out the Asia Art Archive too, founded by Claire Hsu and Johnson Chang in 2000 in response to the urgent need to document and make accessible the multiple recent histories of art in the region.
I also found this really good guide to Hong Kong on On The Grid by local HK creatives.
